About the Opportunity
Our client, a reputable and growing lumber manufacturer in Southern Oregon, is seeking a detail-oriented Wood Grader to join their team. This role is critical in ensuring product quality and consistency, and is ideal for someone with a strong eye for detail and an understanding of lumber grading standards.

Position Overview
The Wood Grader is responsible for inspecting and grading lumber based on established industry standards. This position requires accuracy, consistency, and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect lumber for quality, defects, and grade classification
  • Apply appropriate grade stamps or markings
  • Sort and categorize lumber based on grade and specifications
  • Ensure compliance with industry grading standards and company quality expectations
  • Identify defects such as knots, splits, warping, or moisture issues
  • Work closely with production teams to maintain efficiency and flow
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • Consistent, accurate grading with minimal errors
  • Strong understanding of grading standards and defect identification
  • Maintains production pace without sacrificing quality
  • Communicates effectively with team members and supervisors

Qualifications

  • Previous lumber grading experience preferred (or relevant mill experience)
  • Knowledge of wood species and grading standards is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and visual inspection skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically active environment
  • Comfortable working in a sawmill or manufacturing setting
  • Reliable and team-oriented
