Quality Control Inspector - Swing Shift

Pay: $28/hr

We are currently hiring on behalf of a valued client for a Swing Shift Quality Control Inspector (QCI) to support fabrication operations during evening hours. This role is critical in ensuring that all fabricated components, welds, and assemblies meet required specifications, codes, and quality standards while maintaining production flow on swing shift.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-process and final inspections of fabricated steel components, welds, and assemblies
  • Verify work meets applicable standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME, AISC, and project-specific codes
  • Ensure compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and fabrication drawings
  • Review weld maps, confirm weld sizes, and inspect for visual defects using appropriate tools and gauges
  • Perform fit-up and visual inspections for swing shift production
  • Communicate quality issues and updates with day shift teams to ensure continuity and resolution
  • Maintain accurate weld logs and documentation within job travelers
  • Monitor welder performance, joint preparation, and fit-up quality
  • Document inspection results, including non-conformance reports (NCRs) and required rework
  • Support and enforce safety protocols in shop and field environments

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of quality control experience in a steel fabrication or welding environment
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in fitting, welding, or metal fabrication
  • Strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW)
  • Familiarity with AWS, ASME, or AISC standards
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and inspection documentation
  • Experience using inspection tools such as weld gauges, calipers, and tape measures
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or equivalent

  • NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) equipment
  • Measuring devices and visual inspection tools
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and crouch for extended periods (8–10 hours)
  • Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work at heights or in confined spaces
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise
  • Requires strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
