Production & Material Handler (Assembly / Materials)

 

We are seeking dependable and mechanically inclined individuals to join a growing manufacturing team supporting both Assembly and Materials departments. This is a hands-on, physically active role with strong long-term potential in a union facility known for stability and employee tenure.


Location: Ottawa, KS
Employment Type: Evaluation Hire (Temp-to-Hire)
Work Conditions: Manufacturing / Production / Warehouse
Pay: $25.22 per hour
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM


Position Summary:

This position supports both production assembly and materials handling, requiring flexibility to move between departments based on operational needs. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment with a strong focus on teamwork, communication, and reliability.


Key Responsibilities:

Materials Department:

  • Operate forklifts (sit-down, reach, scissor lift preferred) and hoists
  • Perform kitting and line support for production
  • Cut materials such as metal and wood
  • Move and stage materials throughout a large facility
  • Communicate with team members via radio
  • Support general shop and material flow operations

Production / Assembly:

  • Perform hands-on assembly work on custom-built products
  • Read and follow Bill of Materials (BOM) and work instructions
  • Assist with building and assembling components
  • Work in a physically demanding environment (standing, bending, lifting)
  • Ensure quality and accuracy in all builds

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude (manufacturing, assembly, or hands-on experience)
  • Forklift experience preferred (sit-down, reach, scissor lift)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (team lift over 35 lbs)
  • Ability to stand and move for entire shift
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong attendance and reliability (very important)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including use of radios
  • Must be flexible to work in both materials and production departments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scanner or warehouse system experience
  • Previous manufacturing or assembly experience
  • Experience working in large facilities or production environments

Work Environment:

  • Large manufacturing facility with active production and material movement
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting
  • Fast-paced, team-oriented, and production-driven
  • Communication via radios throughout the facility
