Position Summary

The Intake Specialist – Housing Retention works directly with participants and their families to apply for services, providing both short-term and long-term solutions. This position collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to help participants navigate complex resources and processes to obtain and sustain housing. The Intake Specialist assists participants through the application process to determine program eligibility and appropriate case manager placement. This position operates within an office environment. The wage range is $18.00-$23.73! 


Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interview and screen participants; work with the Program Supervisor to determine eligibility for federal and state assistance programs, including but not limited to food assistance, security deposits, rental assistance, energy assistance, and emergency assistance using predetermined criteria.
  • Review caseloads to align with staff availability and ensure accuracy of staff work; assign caseloads as needed.
  • Provide support to staff in case management, peer support, and outreach to ensure participants receive high-quality assistance.
  • Build positive relationships with participants through one-on-one interactions, fostering trust and engagement.
  • Refer participants to internal programs and external community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of participant interactions, including clear and current case notes, proper coding on vouchers, and accurate reporting information.
  • Take appropriate action to respond to homeless emergencies.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of case management or related experience involving close work with participants and eligibility determination.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups from varying educational, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, demonstrating strong listening skills, sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and occasionally in poor weather conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing priorities and conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with participants and coworkers while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong multitasking skills across a variety of responsibilities.
  • Ability to utilize a work-issued cell phone (or approved alternative per agency policy).
