Material Handler
1st Shift – $17.50/hr
Reports To: Shipping Supervisor / Receiving Supervisor / Team Lead
Position Summary
Performs duties related to the receiving of incoming material from vendors, customers, and other Kirby Risk Corporation locations. This role supports inventory accuracy, material movement, and shipping/receiving operations while maintaining safety, organization, and quality standards.
Essential Job Functions
(Include but are not limited to)

Verifies the accuracy of incoming material quantities with Bill of Freight and packing slip.

Follows departmental procedures to enter packing slip quantities into the computer system.

Documents discrepancies between incoming material and the purchase order.

Receives incoming/returned material from customers.

Labels all incoming material appropriately (System Software #, Returns, Customer Supplied Product, etc.).

Maintains and organizes all inventory storage locations, including materials received for repairs and stock.

Participates in cross-training opportunities as assigned.

Communicates with the Quality and Purchasing Departments regarding returned or damaged material.

Follows department procedures in resolving material discrepancies.

Interprets MRP reports.

Strives for continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.

Provides backup transportation of customer materials to or from Kirby Risk locations as needed.

Operates forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, load, and unload materials safely.

Follows all company policies and procedures.

Sustains housekeeping standards in accordance with Service Center appearance guidelines.

Maintains the Service Center to internal safety standards and OSHA compliance.

Education / Specialized Knowledge / Skills / Experience Required
-
High School diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
-
Previous shipping/receiving experience preferred.
-
Previous forklift experience required.
-
Current forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
-
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
-
Strong telephone etiquette.
-
Demonstrated computer skills; Microsoft Office preferred.

Must be able to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check in accordance with company driving requirements.
-
Must be willing to obtain a "For Hire" endorsement on driver's license within 6 months of full-time conversion.

Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and background check (same requirements as Production positions).

Work Environment
Mostly indoors in a controlled temperature environment. Employees may occasionally be required to travel to customer sites.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying noise levels including hand tools, machinery, heavy equipment, alarms, and general conversation.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate within a team setting.

Ability to stand and work with arms at or above shoulder height for extended periods.

Ability to lift floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and floor to up to 72".

Ability to reach 72" to operate equipment.

Make coordinated arm, hand, and finger movements.

Ability to use hand tools requiring grasping, pinching, twisting, pushing, and pulling motions.

Use hands repetitively to operate, finger, handle, or feel standard production equipment.

Flexible to work shifts, overtime, and weekends when required.
