Express Employment is partnering with a local manufacturing company in Shasta County.

About the Position:

A powder coating technician is responsible for applying powder-coated finishes to metal or other substrates to protect surfaces and improve appearance. The role combines hands‑on technical work, attention to detail, and safety awareness. 

Job Description/ Responsibilities:

1. Surface Preparation

Clean parts by degreasing, sandblasting, chemical washing, or phosphate coating
Remove rust, old paint, oil, and contaminants to ensure proper adhesion
Mask areas that should not be coated (threads, holes, contact points)

2. Powder Coating Application

Operate powder coating spray guns (manual or automated)
Apply powder evenly to parts according to thickness and finish requirements
Adjust voltage, air pressure, and spray patterns for consistent coverage
Load and unload parts onto racks or conveyors

3. Curing and Oven Operation

Set up and monitor curing ovens (temperature and timing)
Ensure coated parts meet cure specifications to prevent defects
Safely move parts between spray booth and oven

4. Quality Control and Inspection

Inspect finished parts for:

Runs, thin spots, orange peel, fisheyes, or contamination

Measure coating thickness using gauges
Perform adhesion checks or visual inspections
Rework or reject parts that do not meet quality standards

5. Equipment Maintenance

Clean and maintain spray guns, hoppers, booths, and reclaim systems
Perform daily preventive maintenance
Troubleshoot basic equipment issues
Change powders and colors with proper cleaning between runs

6. Safety and Compliance

Follow OSHA and company safety procedures
Properly use PPE (respirators, gloves, eye protection)
Handle powders and chemicals safely
Maintain clean, organized work areas to reduce fire and contamination risks

Qualifications:

Attention to detail
Mechanical aptitude
Knowledge of coatings and finishes - previous experience preferred
Ability to lift and handle parts (often 25–50 lbs)
Basic math and measurement skills
Teamwork and time management

$20-$25 per hour depending on experience
