Position Summary
The Welder is responsible for welding of fabricated structural steel components according to shop drawings, welding procedures, and company quality standards. This position primarily performs Metal-core spray arc process welding on structural steel assemblies and must maintain strong attention to safety, quality, and production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
· Read and interpret shop drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
· Perform Metal-core/flux-core welding, with a primary focus on welding for structural steel components and assemblies.
· Welding of assembled structural steel members and miscellaneous metal parts as required
· Verify weld size, placement, and overall quality to ensure compliance with specifications.
· Use grinders, torches, clamps, drills, and other fabrication tools as needed.
· Repair weld defects and make corrections when necessary.
· Work closely with fitters and shop personnel to maintain production flow.
· Inspect completed work for accuracy, strength, and appearance.
· Maintain welding equipment and notify supervisors of repair or maintenance needs.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED preferred.
· Prior experience in structural steel welding and fabrication preferred.
· Experience with Metal-core welding required or strongly preferred.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols.
· Knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and weld quality standards.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or on a team.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding work.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly; heavier lifting with assistance or equipment.
· Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and work around large steel assemblies.
· Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with heat, dust, sparks, and noise.
· Ability to wear required PPE, including welding hood, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
Preferred Skills
· Experience in Metal-core structural steel welding.
· Familiarity with weld size requirements, joint preparation, and fill pass procedures.
· Ability to produce clean, consistent welds that meet shop and customer standards.
· Overhead crane experience is a plus.
· Previous Welding certifications are a plus.
