Landscape Construction Lead Hand / Driver

Location: Toronto, ON (Near O’Connor Dr & Bermondsey Rd)
Compensation: $28–$33/hour (based on experience)

Position Overview

The Landscape Construction Lead Hand / Driver plays a key role in executing landscape construction projects, supporting the Crew Leader, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations on-site. This role involves hands-on construction work, equipment operation, and responsibility for crew transportation and coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as second-in-command to the Crew Leader, helping manage daily site activities
  • Load/unload crew truck and drive team to and from job sites
  • Interpret drawings, plans, and work specifications
  • Perform heavy landscape construction, including:
    • Site demolition and excavation
    • Installation of aggregate, precast paving, and natural stone
  • Operate equipment such as excavators, skid steers, and articulated loaders
  • Complete and manage documentation:
    • Purchase orders (POs)
    • Equipment and vehicle inspections (circle checks)
    • Delivery sign-offs and weekly paperwork submission
  • Identify and mitigate potential job site hazards
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols
  • Support performance reviews and team development alongside Crew Leader
  • Assist with daily reporting and coordination with Project Manager
  • Maintain trucks, tools, and equipment in good working condition
  • Contribute as a hands-on crew member (“working lead”)

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid G driver’s license with clean abstract
  • Minimum 1+ year of landscape construction experience
  • Experience operating:
    • Crew Cabs
    • Excavators
    • Skid steers
    • Articulated loaders

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions
  • Early start time: 6:00 AM at the yard
  • Typical schedule: 55–60 hours/week (Monday–Friday, optional Saturdays)
  • Overtime applicable after 88 hours biweekly
  • Physically demanding role:
    • Lifting up to 50 lbs
    • Repetitive tasks and equipment operation

Compensation

Pay Rate: $28-33/hr (based on experience)

Overtime Pay: 1.5% after 88 hours per two weeks

Vacation Pay: 4%

Medical and Dental Benefits: After 1 years of employment

Group RRSP: After 1 year of employment
