Job Title: Scale House Attendant / General Labor
Position Summary
The Scale House Attendant / General Laborer is responsible for operating the landfill scale house, providing customer service to incoming and outgoing customers as well as answering phones, running the scale computer system, and supporting site cleanliness. This role combines administrative duties with outdoor labor and requires strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Wage: $20.54 an hour
Work Schedule: 6:30am-5:00pm Thursday, Friday and Monday (schedule will differ during training of Monday-Thursday schedule) Position will run May-November
Key Responsibilities
Scale House Operations
- Weigh inbound and outbound trucks using computerized scale systems
- Accurately record and process load information, including materials and weights
- Collect payments and issue receipts as needed
- Maintain daily logs and reports with a high level of accuracy
- Ensure compliance with company policies and environmental regulations
Customer Service & Communication
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to customer inquiries professionally
- Provide directions and guidance to customers regarding disposal procedures
- Communicate effectively with drivers, contractors, and internal staff
Site Maintenance & General Labor
- Pick up litter and debris throughout the landfill and surrounding areas
- Assist with general site cleanup to maintain a safe and organized environment
- Support other team members with basic labor tasks as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in customer service, clerical work, or labor positions is a plus
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn scale software systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 lbs regularly
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Exposure to outdoor elements, noise, dust, and odors
