As a member of the Engineering and Design team, the Design & Drafting Technologist is responsible for design and drafting activities, including the creation, evaluation, and maintenance of 3D CAD models and technical drawings. This role is also responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date engineering records in accordance with established standards and procedures.

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor
Supervises: None
Internal Contacts: Engineering team, production supervisors, production staff, management
External Contacts: Parts suppliers


Key Responsibilities

Design, Engineering, and Drafting

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and drafting of truck-mounted equipment, components, and systems.
  • Design and drafting of manufacturing aids, including jigs and fixtures, to support manufacturing improvements.
  • Use 3D CAD software to develop detailed models and production drawings.
  • Assist with design validation through technical calculations and supporting documentation.
  • Update engineering documentation and specifications in accordance with procedures.
  • Develop and distribute engineering documentation to internal departments as required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support research and development initiatives.
  • Participate in design review meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in the following areas:

  • 1–5 years of practical experience in engineering design and/or manufacturing environments.
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD), including:
    • Strong 3D modeling capabilities (experience with Inventor or similar software preferred).
    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience considered an asset.
    • Experience with factory-layout or visualization tools considered an asset.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, file management, and data entry.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or
  • Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma.

Certifications

  • Registered or eligible for registration with a recognized professional engineering or technologist association.

Working Conditions
