The Safety Manager plays a key role in maintaining and advancing the organization’s health and safety program. This position ensures safety materials are current, supports hazard assessments and incident reviews, and implements appropriate corrective measures. The role ensures compliance with internal policies and applicable legislation, provides leadership and oversight, supports new employee orientation and training, and contributes to administrative, security, and other assigned projects.

Key Responsibility Areas
Workplace Safety Compliance & Investigations
- Maintains a safe workplace for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Inspects work areas to ensure health and safety programs and policies are followed.
- Develops, updates, and maintains health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Creates and maintains Safe Work Procedures.
- Oversees Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Maintains safety certification status and conducts annual internal audits.
- Ensures occupational health and safety compliance.
- Compiles and analyzes injury and incident statistics.
- Ensures equipment, materials, and production processes do not pose safety or health risks.
- Ensures corrective actions for identified hazards are developed and implemented by departments.
- Assists with investigations into safety-related complaints, chemical incidents, and workplace accidents.
- Assists with workplace violence, harassment, and bullying investigations in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Collects injury-related information, submits required employer reports, and monitors claim outcomes.
- Performs clearance checks on contracted companies when required.
Leadership & Supervision
- Coordinates performance planning, feedback, and employee development.
- Manages performance improvement processes, including discipline where necessary.
- Supervises and prioritizes daily work assignments to meet operational deadlines.
- Plans and coordinates staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Conducts regular team meetings to review progress and address concerns.
- Promotes team building, conflict resolution, mentoring, and coaching.
- Manages scheduling, time-off requests, overtime, and work direction.
Training & Orientation
- Provides consultation and delivers training related to health, environmental protection, and workplace safety.
Qualifications
Education
- Degree or diploma in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Formal health and safety training.
Experience
- 3–5 years of related experience in a safety-focused role.
- Equivalent experience will be considered.
Certifications
- Recognized health and safety certification.
- Safety audit or peer auditor certification (asset).

Working Conditions
- Combination of office and industrial/manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to noise, machinery, and potential hazards; PPE required.

- Employee is responsible for providing certified safety footwear; all other PPE is provided.
