Industrial Electrician

Location: American Canyon, CA

Position Summary

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing electrical systems and equipment essential to production within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role ensures all electrical systems operate efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Candidates must be flexible and available to work weekends and overtime as required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair industrial electrical systems, including motors, control panels, sensors, lighting systems, and production equipment.
  • Perform routine and preventive electrical maintenance to minimize equipment failure and production downtime.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade wiring, conduit, and electrical distribution systems in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
  • Support and maintain production equipment such as conveyors, fillers, labelers, packaging machines, and food-processing machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and support PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred), VFDs, HMIs, and related control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Complete and document work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Production teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Participate in safety audits, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective and preventive action processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial electrical experience; food or beverage manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven proficiency in industrial electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and installations.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, and sanitary design standards within food production environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive setting.
  • Comfortable working around machinery, water, and active food production lines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship or formal technical training program.
  • State electrical certification or journeyman card (California General Electrician preferred).
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, servo drives, and SCADA systems.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and work from elevated platforms for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as required.
  • May be required to use lifts or worker cages to access elevated areas.
  • Required to wear PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a food manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery and moderate to high noise levels.
  • Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, moisture, and liquids when working on production equipment.
  • Exposure to strong odors and fumes from hot peppers and other ingredients.
  • Frequent exposure to wet or slippery surfaces and cleaning chemicals.
  • Fast-paced, high-demand environment requiring strict adherence to hygiene, safety, and food quality standards.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts based on production needs
