Position: Mosquito Control Assistant

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Location: Flathead Valley
Seasonal Position


What You’ll Do

  • Operate trucks, ATVs, sprayers, pumps, power tools, calibration devices, and GPS‑based surveillance equipment
  • Navigate to assigned work locations throughout Flathead County
  • Walk or hike to shallow water areas to test for mosquito larvae
  • Identify mosquito production sites and sample larval populations
  • Deploy traps and collect data for adult mosquito monitoring, species identification, and West Nile Virus surveillance
  • Apply larvicide and adulticide chemicals in designated areas
  • Record surveillance data on handheld GPS/tablet devices
  • Prepare activity reports and maintain application records in compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Assist with equipment maintenance
  • Support community outreach efforts as directed

What You Bring

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Ability to pass a basic background check, MVR check, and 5‑panel drug test
  • Ability to operate vehicles, ATVs, and basic equipment
  • Strong map‑reading skills and ability to make accurate mathematical calculations
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Flathead Valley
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions

Experience

  • No experience required—training provided
  • Outdoor work experience or small‑engine familiarity is helpful

Qualities

  • Knowledge of safety practices, SDS sheets, and proper chemical handling
  • Ability to use PPE such as gloves, goggles, N95 masks, hearing protection, and irrigation boots
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to work independently
  • Adaptable, reliable, and safety‑focused

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience demonstrating required skills

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Regular use of hands for equipment operation and data entry
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment as needed
  • Outdoor physical work in a fast‑moving environment

Travel

  • Yes—daily travel throughout the Flathead Valley
