Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Water Plant Operator Trainee. This entry‑level role is designed for candidates interested in learning the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of a municipal water treatment facility. Under the guidance of certified operators, the trainee will gain hands‑on experience and technical knowledge required to become a licensed Water Plant Operator.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist certified operators with daily plant operations, including monitoring pumps, motors, chemical feed systems, and SCADA controls.
• Conduct routine inspections and collect water samples for basic laboratory testing.
• Maintain accurate operational logs and follow applicable state and federal regulations.
• Support preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and general facility upkeep.
• Participate in emergency response activities and after‑hours call‑outs as needed.
• Complete required training to obtain state operator certification.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, bending, and working indoors/outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Indoor and outdoor work environments with exposure to noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures.

• Standing, walking, climbing, and manual dexterity required for extended periods.

• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
