Janitor Job Description

Position Title: Janitor / Custodian

Summary

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment throughout the facility. This role includes performing routine cleaning tasks, restocking supplies, and reporting maintenance issues to ensure the building remains in excellent condition for employees, visitors, and customers.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, breakrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as needed.
• Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper disposal.
• Dust furniture, fixtures, vents, and surfaces.
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies.
• Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs or reporting repairs.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper storage of supplies.
• Follow safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals appropriately.
• Lock and unlock doors, secure the facility, and ensure all areas are safe and orderly.

 

Skills & Qualifications

• Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety protocols.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.

• Experience in commercial, industrial, or medical facility cleaning.
• Ability to operate floor buffers, carpet cleaners, or other specialized equipment.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends.
