Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist | $28 - $35 DOE | Sugar Land

Position Summary:
Express Employment Professionals is currently recruiting on behalf of a client located in Sugar Land for a skilled and experienced CNC Lathe Machinist. This role is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC lathe machines to produce precision parts in accordance with engineering specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and quality standards, and be capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate CNC lathe machines (including multi-axis machines)
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications
  • Program or edit CNC programs using G-code (at the machine or via CAM software)
  • Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures, and materials
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards
  • Document production runs and maintain accurate records

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of CNC lathe machining experience (5+ years preferred)
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and understanding GD&T
  • Strong knowledge of G-code programming and CNC controls (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Mazak)
  • Experience with tight tolerances and precision machining
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools accurately
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school preferred

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with live tooling and multi-axis lathes
  • Familiarity with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.)
  • Ability to work with a variety of materials (steel, aluminum, stainless, plastics)
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Lift up to 50 lbs as needed
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing / machine shop setting
  • Exposure to machine noise, coolants, and metal shavings
  • PPE required (safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection)
