Pattern Maker / Upholsterer

Location: Vaughan, ON (Keele and Rutherford)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $32-37/hr based on experience
Shift: Day, 8am-5pm

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Pattern Maker / Upholsterer to join a production team in a warehouse environment. This hands-on role is responsible for creating, refining, and maintaining pattern sets used in fabric and upholstery production. The ideal candidate brings strong craftsmanship, precision, and the ability to translate design concepts into accurate, repeatable patterns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outline and cut patterns from master templates with precision
  • Create and refine stencil patterns for production use
  • Lay out master patterns on fabric and cut sample patterns as required
  • Arrange and position pattern pieces efficiently to minimize material waste
  • Construct patterns and templates based on design specifications
  • Develop size variations from master patterns using CAD software or drafting tools
  • Maintain organized and accurate pattern libraries and documentation
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure consistency and accuracy

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • College/CEGEP diploma or certificate (1–2 years) in a relevant field (e.g., fashion design, textile arts, upholstery, or similar)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on patternmaking experience, furniture industry experience is a strong asset
  • Experience working with and developing master patterns
  • Background in pattern design and related specialization

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of patternmaking techniques (drafting, grading, scaling)
  • Experience with master pattern creation and management
  • Proficiency with Lectra Modaris or other CAD tools and traditional drafting methods
  • Understanding of fabric properties and their impact on pattern construction

Physical Requirements

  • High attention to detail and measurement accuracy
  • Strong hand-eye coordination for detailed manual work
  • Ability to distinguish colours for fabric matching and quality control
  • Comfortable with physical activity including bending, crouching, and kneeling

Work Environment & Additional Requirements

  • Warehouse/Manufacturing setting
  • Dusty environment (PPE provided)
  • Public transportation accessible
  • Criminal record check required prior to start

Compensation & Benefits

  • Payrate: $32 – $37 per hour + overtime pay
