HOURS AND WAGE: 20-28 hours/week in school year, 30-35 hours/week in summer, $18-$22 hour (DOE)

JOB SUMMARY: A program specialist implements and supervises all programs and activities provided at a Club site or program area during our after-school program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of the Club site at all times.
2. Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
3. Promote and stimulate program participation, welcome new members and participate in their orientation process.
4. Participate in weekly staff meetings.
5. Assist in planning and conducting programs and activities.
6. Recognize members for participation in program activities.
7. Maintain the cleanliness of the program area on an ongoing basis.
8. Maintain daily contact with club staff, club members, supervisor and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, and understand guidelines/instructions.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
High School diploma or GED.
Experience working with children.
Knowledge of youth development.
Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
Ability to deal with the general public.
Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (or the ability to be certified).

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Program Specialist for the technology center is responsible for using the resources of the organization and community to provide programs for Club members consistent with the organization’s youth development mission and goals, with a specific focus on technology programs and programs fostering academic success. The position also sets an example demonstrating Club Values, has a high level of communication with parents and community partners, focuses on program development and implementation, measurement outcomes and actively participates in all Club meetings.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
General Program Duties
1. Plan, implement and supervise programs and activities to increase members’ participation in activities fostering healthy lifestyles, academic success, and good character & citizenship.
2. Create activity plans and monthly activity calendars that align with the Formula for Impact
3. Track and evaluate programs and activities and accurately report on those programs to the Club team, grantors, and Board members.
4. Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluation programs including annual evaluation for Commitment to Quality and Formula for Impact. Ensure quantitative and qualitative measurements are developed and implemented to ensure quality and effective programs
5. Contribute to the creation of a positive climate for youth development in the Club; encourage emotional, social, and educational growth of individual members
6. Provide guidance and behavior management for Club members including conversations with other staff and parent/guardians as needed.
7. Provide effective outreach to youth in schools and within other areas of the community.
8. Supervise, instruct, and direct varied activities for all ages as needed. Assist with daily events for Club members of all ages and provide support for daily operations as needed
9. Establish a program setting that insures the health and safety of members
10. Plan and lead special field trips and outings; recruit participants
11. Carry out requests and follow directives issued by supervisor; perform other related duties as specified by supervisor.
Leadership
1. Attend and participate in staff meetings
2. Participate in professional development activities as appropriate
3. Initiate contacts within the community to form relationships and open lines of communication to communicate purpose and results of the Club Programs
4. Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members and staff.
5. Always uphold the Club Values
6. Exercise authority in negotiating solutions to problems with members using guidance and discipline plan
7. Exercise independent judgment and take initiative within general policy guidelines.
Management
1. Use management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to work with other YDP staff to collaborate on programming, guidance, and operations.
Resource Management
1. Maintain care of equipment, supplies, and facilities. Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).
Marketing and Public Relations
1. Participate in activities to maintain public trust in Boys & Girls Club programs, services, and activities.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close contact with Club Director and fellow program staff about overall Club operations and program activities. Read and answer emails and voice messages promptly.
External: Provide adequate communication with parents and Club families. Positively interact with external community groups, organizations, schools, and others.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· High school diploma or GED
· Experience working with youth in grades K-12. Enjoys working with youth 6-18.
o Note: Some licensed sites require a minimum number of hours working with school-aged youth in groups of 4 or more in a professional setting.
· Experience in or knowledge of youth development strategies preferred.
· Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
· Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
· Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
· Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback as necessary
· Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (or the ability to be certified).
· Proficient in, or willing to learn, MS Office tools such as Outlook and Teams
· Ability to pass a criminal background check
· Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal internal working environment with duties are normally performed at the Club and local school sites
Able to function under fast-paced and noisy conditions
Schedules vary depending on program and operational needs including nights and weekends
Occasional travel required - able to travel by car and by air; able to navigate areas of the state by using a map or other direction methods
Ability to work inside and outside during all seasons
