Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to support construction and site development projects. This role is responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to complete excavation, grading, and material handling tasks. Ideal candidates will have hands-on equipment experience, strong awareness of safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced jobsite environments.

Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, loaders, and backhoes
Perform excavation, grading, trenching, and site preparation work according to project specifications
Load, move, and distribute materials safely and efficiently
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections to ensure safe operation
Identify and report mechanical issues and assist with basic maintenance
Follow site plans, grade stakes, and blueprints to complete tasks accurately
Work closely with crew members to maintain workflow and meet project timelines
Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and company procedures
Maintain clean and organized equipment and jobsite areas

Qualifications

Previous experience operating heavy equipment in construction or similar environments
Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and equipment operation
Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and grade stakes
Experience with excavation, grading, or utility work preferred
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding conditions
Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with GPS-guided equipment or grade control systems
OSHA certification or safety training
Experience in underground utilities, sitework, or road construction
Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment maintenance

Work Environment

Outdoor construction job sites in varying weather conditions
Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery
Physically demanding role requiring attention to detail and safety
Fast-paced environment with strict project deadlines

Compensation & Schedule

$25 - $41/hr
Competitive hourly pay based on experience
