Small Engine Mechanic

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Small Engine Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of small engine equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and meets performance standards. Ideal candidates will have hands-on mechanical experience, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to quality workmanship.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical issues on small engines including lawn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, generators, and other equipment
  • Perform repairs on engines, fuel systems, electrical components, and hydraulic systems
  • Conduct routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups
  • Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble engine components to manufacturer specifications
  • Use diagnostic tools and manuals to identify and resolve equipment issues
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and service timelines
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and company procedures
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary tools and parts
  • Communicate repair needs and timelines with supervisors or customers

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working on small engines or related mechanical equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and fuel systems
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a physically demanding environment
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Small engine certification or technical training
  • Experience with brands such as Briggs & Stratton, Honda, Stihl, or Husqvarna
  • Welding or fabrication experience (a plus)

Work Environment

  • Shop and outdoor work environments
  • Exposure to noise, fumes, and varying weather conditions
  • Fast-paced, hands-on role requiring attention to detail and safety

Compensation & Schedule

  • $19-21/hr
  • Pay based on experience
  • Full-time / Part-time availability
  • Overtime may be available during peak seasons
