Job description:

Overview
The Shipping Manager provides general department management in the area of warehouse and delivery operations and fleet management. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the department while maintaining a high level of customer service and meeting budget requirements. Assists and develops direct reports to achieve desired results. Direct responsibility for all department employees to ensure proper orientations, training, development, compensation and working conditions are present.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage shipping performance, including shipping percentages and backorders
  • Manage logistics performance, including shipping percentages, delivery metrics, and backorders
  • Oversee all logistics compliance requirements, including maintaining DOT files
  • Manage budgets and control logistics-related costs across delivery and warehouse operations
  • Negotiate logistics pricing for freight, leases, shipping materials, and supplies
  • Oversee loading, transportation, and delivery of products to dealers, contractors, and job sites
  • Coordinate and schedule logistics and delivery activities to optimize loads, reduce labor hours, and exceed customer expectationsMaintain Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance files
  • Oversee department budgets and control costs for delivery and warehouse operations
  • Negotiate pricing for freight, leases, shipping materials, and supplies
  • Supervise loading and delivery of products to dealers, contractors, and job sites
  • Coordinate and schedule deliveries to optimize loads, minimize labor hours, and exceed customer expectations
  • Review paperwork to plan work activities, assign personnel, and balance delivery loads
  • Manage expense accounts for department personnel
  • Support the order fulfillment process by working closely with inside sales, production, customer service, and credit teams
  • Participate in leadership development programs
  • Create and execute Master Production Schedule (MPS) plans, meet commitments, and work within established guidelines
  • Guide, motivate, and develop team members to maintain high performance standards
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures

Level of Supervision

  • Directly supervises Delivery and Warehouse teams
  • May include oversight of Shipping and Receiving personnel

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of related logistics or distribution experience
  • Prior supervisory experience in logistics and employee management required
  • Strong knowledge of delivery operations, DOT regulations, and distribution legalities
  • Inventory control experience preferred

Education, Licenses & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
