Quality Control Engineer

Location: Winchester, KY (Interviews held at the Georgetown, KY office)

Schedule: Generally, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Minimal overtime required)

Role Overview

As a Quality Control Engineer, you will be the primary guardian of company quality standards. Your role involves heavy interaction with customers and suppliers, leading internal efforts to reduce scrap, and managing the Gauge Control System. You will provide technical guidance across departments to ensure a culture of safety and high-quality service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Relations: Serve as the main point of contact for quality issues and claims. Analyze rejected products (warranty or field rejects) and present detailed findings to customers.
  • Problem Solving: Lead "countermeasure meetings" to fix manufacturing defects. You will identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent issues from happening again.
  • Gauge Management: Maintain the gauge calibration and recall system. This includes repairing precision gauges, selecting the best tools for specific measurements, and coordinating with vendors.
  • Process Auditing: Conduct internal audits to identify and reduce quality risks.
  • Standards & Compliance: Ensure all processes follow industry standards such as PPAP, MSA, and APQP.
  • Training & Standards: Create inspection standards for receiving, shipping, and layout. Provide technical training to quality technicians and inspectors.
  • Travel: Occasionally visit customer facilities to analyze rejected products on-site.

Education & Experience (One of the following):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Quality Engineering + 3 years of experience in the Quality field.
  • Master’s Degree in Quality Engineering + 2 years of experience in the Quality field.
  • 8 years of exempt-level experience specifically in the Quality field.

Technical Skills:

  • Industry Knowledge: General knowledge of machining, heat treatment, metallurgical processes, and welding.
  • Testing: Full understanding of non-destructive testing (NDT) regarding raw materials.
  • Technical Tools: Ability to read blueprints, use SPC data, and experience with CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines).
  • Software: Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).

Preferred Assets:

  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician status.
  • Experience collaborating with international departments (e.g., Japan) for gauge design.

Experience:

  • Quality management: 5 years (Required)
  • Coordinate measuring machine: 3 years (Required)
  • Precision measuring instruments: 3 years (Preferred)
