Assistant Controller Job Summary

An injection molding manufacturing organization in West Michigan is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities. This role provides leadership to the accounting team and plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and continuous process improvement.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a collaborative manufacturing environment where accuracy, accountability, and cross-functional partnership are essential.

Assistant Controller Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and analyze results for accuracy and trends
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and controls
  • Lead month-end close processes, including account reconciliations and checklist management
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Oversee accounting for fixed assets, tooling, and capital expenditures
  • Partner with department leaders to develop budgets and forecasts
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to support business decision-making
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including Staff Accountant and AP/AR team members
  • Drive process improvements and standardization across accounting functions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and operational teams
  • Support special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as needed

Schedule & Pay

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Pay: $85-$100k/YR., based on experience

Assistant Controller Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
  • Experience overseeing general ledger, AP/AR, and financial reporting processes
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities
