Shipping & Receiving Specialist
Location: Cleveland, OH
Shift: Monday - Friday
Pay: $20 to $22 per hour
Primary Purpose
The Shipping & Receiving Specialist handles the accurate and efficient movement of all incoming and outgoing materials. This includes receiving shipments, preparing outgoing orders, maintaining documentation, and supporting inventory and production needs. The role involves both clerical and physical work and requires strong attention to detail, safety, and communication.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving
• Greet drivers and walk-in customers professionally.
• Receive and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and damage.
• Verify quantities, part numbers, serial numbers, and paperwork.
• Enter received goods into the purchasing system.
• Label, store, and route materials to the correct departments.
• Work with purchasing and vendors to resolve shipment issues.
• Process customer returns.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files.
Shipping
• Review sales orders for accuracy.
• Pull parts and monitor inventory levels.
• Report low stock and request replenishment when needed.
• Prepare shipments, including packaging, crating, labeling, and recording weights/dimensions.
• Ensure all required documentation (manuals, SDS, certificates, etc.) is included.
• Coordinate pickups with carriers.
• Follow domestic and international shipping regulations.
• Occasionally deliver or pick up materials using a company truck.
Operational Support
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and similar equipment.
• Keep the shipping/receiving area clean and organized.
• Maintain supplies for shipping materials.
• Perform basic equipment and facility maintenance.
• Assist with light assembly or machining tasks.
• Participate in inventory counts.
• Follow all safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
• Support continuous improvement efforts.
Required Skills & Experience
• Ability to learn through instruction and observation.
• Safe forklift operation skills.
• Ability to read measuring tools (tape measure, scale, etc.).
• Basic carpentry and tool-use skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay organized.
• Strong work ethic and reliable attendance.
• 1–2 years of shipping/receiving experience preferred.
• 1 year of forklift experience (certification a plus).
