Express Employment Professionals of Longview have a current opening for SMAW Welders for a Longview industrial plant. Hours are 6:30am-3pm Monday through Friday. Pay is dependent on experience, starting at $18-20/hr.

Job Title: SMAW Welder

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) Welder responsible for performing high-quality welds on structural components. The ideal candidate must be able to pass a 3G weld test on 1” plate with a 33° bevel and open root and demonstrate strong attention to detail, safety, and workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform SMAW (stick welding) on carbon steel and/or structural components
• Complete vertical (3G) welds in accordance with industry standards
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
• Prepare materials, including beveling, grinding, and fit-up for welding
• Maintain proper weld quality, penetration, and bead profile
• Inspect finished welds to ensure compliance with specifications
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE usage
• Maintain a clean and organized work area

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as an SMAW welder
• Must pass a 3G weld test: 1” plate, 33° bevel, open root
• Ability to weld in vertical position with strong root pass and fill/cap consistency
• Knowledge of welding codes (AWS D1.1 preferred)
• Ability to read tape measure and fabrication drawings accurately
• Strong attention to detail and quality

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, bend, and work in various positions for extended periods
• Lift up to 50 lbs as needed
• Work in a manufacturing or industrial environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous certification in SMAW (AWS or equivalent)
• Experience in structural steel or heavy fabrication
• Multi-process welding experience (MIG/FCAW a plus)

Work Environment:

• Shop or industrial setting
• Exposure to heat, noise, and welding fumes
• PPE required at all times
