Job Summary
The Copper Busbar Fabricator is responsible for the fabrication, forming, punching, bending, cutting, finishing, and assembly of copper busbars and related copper components used in switchgear and electrical distribution equipment. This role operates specialized fabrication machinery and tools to produce precision copper conductors in accordance with engineering drawings, safety standards, and quality requirements.
This position requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are considered essential functions of the position. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Copper Fabrication
- Cut, bend, punch, and shape copper bars according to blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders.
- Fabricate copper conductors to precise dimensional tolerances.
- Punch holes to specification for electrical connections and mounting requirements.
Machine Operation
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment including hydraulic bending machines, Ironworker punch / shear and other copper-forming tools.
- Adjust machinery to maintain dimensional accuracy and production efficiency.
- Perform routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
Assembly & Installation
- Install fabricated copper busbars into switchboards, switchgear, panelboards, PDUs, and RPP assemblies.
- Ensure proper insulation, spacing, and alignment to prevent electrical faults or short circuits.
Finishing & Quality Control
- Remove burrs and sharp edges to ensure safe handling and proper electrical conductivity.
- Inspect finished copper components to verify compliance with engineering specifications.
- Measure and verify tolerances using tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices.
- Identify and report nonconforming materials or workmanship in accordance with company procedures.
Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Perform daily preventive maintenance on assigned fabrication equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Handle and store copper materials properly to prevent damage or contamination.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all Tier Power Systems safety standards and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work safely around fabrication equipment and electrical components.
- Maintain any required certifications related to equipment operation.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (2) year experience in copper fabrication, metal fabrication, or a production/manufacturing environment preferred; training may be provided for qualified candidates.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Ability to measure accurately using manual and electronic measuring devices.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check in accordance with applicable law.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- This position operates in a manufacturing environment and requires:
- Standing for extended periods, up to 12-hour shifts.
- Repetitive lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and handling of copper materials.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and temperature variations typical of a fabrication facility.
- Adherence to strict safety procedures when operating fabrication equipment.
