Job Summary
The Switchboard Assembler is responsible for the assembly, installation, wiring, and mechanical integration of switchboards, switchgear, and related electrical distribution equipment. This position works from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions to ensure accurate assembly and compliance with quality and safety standards.
The role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are considered essential functions of the position. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Assembly & Installation
- Assemble switchboards, switchgear, panelboards, and electrical enclosures in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Install components such as breakers, busbars, relays, transformers, wiring harnesses, and control devices.
- Mount and secure electrical components within enclosures using appropriate hardware and tools.
Electrical Wiring & Integration
- Route, terminate, and label wiring according to electrical schematics and layout drawings.
- Verify proper connections to ensure compliance with design requirements and prevent electrical faults.
- Assist with mechanical and electrical integration of subassemblies.
Blueprint & Schematic Interpretation
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials.
- Follow work instructions and production schedules to meet project timelines.
Quality Control
- Inspect assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications, tolerances, and workmanship standards.
- Identify and report discrepancies or nonconforming materials in accordance with company procedures.
- Participate in testing and verification processes as required.
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all Tier Power Systems safety standards and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow established safety protocols when working with electrical components and tools.
Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Properly handle tools, materials, and equipment.
- Support general production needs as directed by supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (2) year experience in electrical assembly, switchgear assembly, panel building, or a related manufacturing environment preferred; training may be provided for qualified candidates.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices accurately.
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check in accordance with applicable law.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Standing for extended periods, up to 10–12-hour shifts.
- Repetitive lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and manual dexterity for detailed assembly work.
- Exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations typical of a production facility.
- Strict adherence to safety procedures when working with electrical components and fabrication tools.
