Job Summary:
The Metal and Steel Quality Control Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all metal and steel products meet company quality standards and customer specifications. This role involves conducting inspections, testing materials, and monitoring production processes to identify defects, deviations, or non-conformities. The inspector plays a critical role in maintaining product reliability, safety, and compliance with industry standards.
Expert-level ability to read shop drawings and blueprints.
Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of QC experience in a structural steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect raw materials, in-process components, and finished metal and steel products for quality, dimensions, and surface defects.
- Conduct tests such as hardness, tensile, impact, and chemical composition analysis using appropriate tools and instruments.
- Document inspection results and generate accurate reports for production and management review.
- Identify non-conforming materials or products and coordinate with production teams to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, industry codes, and safety regulations.
- Assist in developing and maintaining inspection procedures, checklists, and quality documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and procurement teams to address quality issues and implement process improvements.
- Perform periodic audits of equipment, processes, and documentation to ensure quality consistency.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in metallurgy, materials science, or quality control preferred.
- Previous experience in metal, steel, or manufacturing quality control is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of metal and steel properties, testing methods, and relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
- Proficiency in using measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) and testing equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and work in industrial environments with noise, heat, or other conditions typical of manufacturing facilities.
