Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator supports the development of advanced laser and electro-optical systems through precision machining and fabrication. This role is ideal for a skilled machinist interested in expanding into mechanical design and drafting while contributing to rapid-turn, high-precision manufacturing projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, and maintain CNC mills, lathes, and related shop equipment
  • Execute precision machining modifications and fabricate new components to specification
  • Develop and optimize feeds, speeds, and machining strategies
  • Perform quality inspections using metrology tools to ensure part accuracy
  • Manage work schedules and priorities with minimal supervision
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement effective solutions
  • Support facility operations, including cleanroom upkeep, equipment maintenance, and occasional site support or travel
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of CNC machining experience (mills and/or lathes)
  • Experience with HAAS and/or FANUC controls
  • Proficiency in manual G-code programming and editing
  • Experience with CAM software (HSMWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or ESPRIT)
  • Familiarity with conversational programming (Proto-Trak, HAAS VPS)
  • Strong understanding of fabrication and assembly drawings (ISO/ANSI standards)
  • Experience working in AS9100 or ISO9001 environments preferred
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance for CNC equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work under pressure
  • High attention to detail, quality, and workmanship

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (active clearance preferred)
  • Willingness to support facility-related tasks and occasional travel

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing/shop environment
