Job Title:

Registered Nurse (RN) – Perioperative Services (Gynecology)

Position Summary:

The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing gynecologic surgical procedures. This role includes care delivery in the pre-operative, intra-operative (circulating), and post-anesthesia recovery phases. The RN ensures patient safety, maintains sterile environments, and collaborates with the surgical team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Operative Care

• Perform patient assessments including medical history, vital signs, and surgical readiness
• Verify informed consent, procedure details, and patient identification
• Initiate IV lines and administer pre-operative medications as ordered
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures, expectations, and recovery
• Ensure all required documentation, labs, and clearances are complete

Intra-Operative (Circulating Nurse)

• Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical environment
• Assist with patient positioning, ensuring safety and preventing injury
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists
• Monitor patient status and respond to changes during procedures
• Maintain accurate surgical documentation and counts (instruments, sponges, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols

Post-Operative (PACU/Recovery)

• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia (airway, vitals, pain level)
• Administer medications and manage pain per physician orders
• Assess surgical sites and monitor for complications (bleeding, infection, etc.)
• Provide discharge education, including wound care and follow-up instructions
• Communicate patient status with providers and family members

Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State]
• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred)
• BLS certification required; ACLS and/or PALS preferred
• Minimum of [1–2] years of perioperative or surgical nursing experience preferred
• Experience in gynecologic or women’s health procedures highly desirable
