Collections Manager (Senior Level)

Location: Wakefield
Salary Range: $76,000 – $95,000 (DOE)

 

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Collections Manager to lead and oversee our collections operations in Wakefield. This role is not a traditional accounts receivable position; instead, it focuses on managing complex collections processes, regulatory compliance, and recovery strategies within a structured financial or legal environment.

 

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in banking, credit services, or paralegal/legal collections, along with proven leadership experience and a deep understanding of compliance and risk management.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the collections team, ensuring performance goals and recovery targets are met
  • Develop and implement effective collection strategies for delinquent accounts, emphasizing compliance and customer sensitivity
  • Oversee complex or escalated collection cases, including legal and regulatory considerations
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to collections practices
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and credit teams to manage risk and improve recovery outcomes
  • Analyze portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend process improvements
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate team members to build a high-performing collections unit
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, reporting regularly to senior leadership
  • Maintain accurate documentation and audit-ready records

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Legal Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–8+ years of experience in collections, credit risk, banking, or legal/paralegal environments
  • 2–3+ years of leadership or management experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of collections laws and regulations  
  • Experience handling complex or high-risk accounts  
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in collections systems and reporting tools
