A Metal Yard Hostler is responsible for safely moving trailers, roll-off bins, and metal containers within a scrap yard or metal recycling facility. The role ensures smooth yard flow by positioning equipment for loading, unloading, and processing.
Standard hostler duties include maneuvering trailers in tight spaces and operating specialized yard trucks, as noted in typical hostler roles.

Key Responsibilities
• Move and position containers and metal bins throughout the yard.
• Spot trailers at loading docks and staging areas for metal processing.
• Operate yard trucks/hostlers other heavy equipment.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard vehicles.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment.
• Assist with material handling, sorting, or ground labor as needed.
• Follow all OSHA and facility safety protocols.
• Report equipment issues and support basic maintenance tasks.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Ability to work in tight industrial spaces.
• Knowledge of scrap-metal yard operations (preferred).
• Strong situational awareness and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment checks.
• Effective communication skills.

Education & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• 1–2 years of experience in a yard, warehouse, trucking, or metal recycling environment is preferred.
