Location: Salem, OR Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (30-minute lunch)
We are hiring a highly skilled Journeyman Machine Builder Fabricator to support the build of complex, large-scale industrial equipment. This role requires advanced fabrication, welding, hydraulic, and mechanical assembly experience, along with the ability to work to tight tolerances and contribute to design improvements.
Fabricate and assemble large, custom industrial equipment with precision
Work with high-mix builds requiring tight tolerances and attention to detail
Install hydraulic systems, motors, pumps, valves, and related components
Build hose assemblies and select proper fittings for complete system integration
Perform hard wire and flux core welding to AWS D1.1 standards
Use surveying equipment to ensure alignment and accuracy on large assemblies
Safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and jib cranes
Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
Collaborate with engineering and production teams on design improvements
Provide input on component selection and system installation
Train and mentor less experienced team members
Potential for national travel to perform field installation work
10+ years of experience in fabrication, machine building, and mechanical assembly
Strong background in hydraulic and electrical systems installation
Advanced welding knowledge and experience with AWS D1.1 standards
Proven ability to hold tight tolerances and inspect completed work
Experience operating forklifts and cranes, including rigging large equipment
Strong blueprint reading and layout skills
Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and solve problems in real time
Ability to work independently and lead within a team environment
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
Basic math skills (including fractions)
Basic computer skills for time tracking
Must have your own basic tools
Preferred:
Experience with PLC controls and electrical troubleshooting
Low voltage wiring and testing experience
Experience training or mentoring others in a shop environment
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 95% of the workday)
Comfortable working in high-temperature industrial environments
Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms
Ability to work in confined or awkward positions (kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead)
Must be able to wear required PPE (gloves, goggles, ear protection, etc.)
Industrial machine shop setting
Exposure to loud noise, moving equipment, and temperature fluctuations
Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical equipment
