Job Title: Lead Auto Mechanic

Location: Champaign, IL
Pay: $25/hour
Schedule: Full-time | Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays as needed)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Auto Mechanic to join our team in Champaign, IL. This position is ideal for an experienced technician who can diagnose complex mechanical issues, perform high-level repairs, and lead a small team of mechanics. The right candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership ability, and a commitment to quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle issues including engine, transmission, electrical, and suspension systems

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and equipment

  • Lead and support a team of technicians by assigning work and providing guidance

  • Ensure all repairs meet quality standards and are completed efficiently

  • Perform routine maintenance services including brakes, oil changes, and inspections

  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation

  • Enforce shop safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work environment

  • Communicate effectively with management regarding workflow and repair needs

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as an auto mechanic (required)

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills

  • Experience working with a variety of vehicle makes and models

  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals and technical data

  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred

  • Valid driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASE certifications (a plus)

  • Experience in a lead or senior technician role

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and engine diagnostics

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs

  • Stand for extended periods and work in various positions (bending, kneeling, etc.)

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment
