Role Overview
The RF Test Engineer is responsible for developing, executing, and improving test processes for RF components, subsystems, and assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications. This role ensures products meet performance, reliability, and regulatory requirements through rigorous testing, troubleshooting, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, execute, and document RF test procedures for components such as amplifiers, filters, antennas, oscillators, transceivers, and RF PCBs.
- Perform RF measurements including S-parameters, gain, noise figure, VSWR, power output, phase noise, linearity, and spectrum analysis.
- Configure and operate RF test equipment: VNAs, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes, and network analyzers.
- Troubleshoot RF performance issues at the component and system level using root-cause analysis.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by designing test setups, fixtures, and validation plans.
- Collaborate with design engineering to refine RF circuits and improve manufacturability and testability.
- Analyze test data, generate reports, and present findings to engineering and leadership teams.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace standards (AS9100, MIL-STD-461/464, DO-160, etc.).
- Maintain calibration, documentation, and configuration control of test equipment and procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test time, improve yield, and enhance reliability.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with SSPA, BUC, GaN Transistors.
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, etc.).
- Ability to interpret schematics, block diagrams, and RF layouts.
- Proficiency with test automation tools (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar).
- Experience with RF simulation tools (ADS, HFSS, CST, or similar) is a plus.
- Familiarity with aerospace/defense testing standards and documentation requirements.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of RF testing experience in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability electronics.
