Certified Medical Coder

Location: Colfax, WA
Pay: $22 – $25 per hour DOE
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Typical office hours) 

Position Overview

A healthcare organization in Colfax, WA is seeking a Certified Medical Coder to support accurate medical coding and documentation within a hospital-based revenue cycle team. This role is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes to ensure accurate billing, regulatory compliance, and proper reimbursement.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative hospital environment, partnering closely with clinical, coding, and revenue cycle teams to support accurate documentation and reimbursement.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of coding guidelines, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently within electronic health record systems. Experience with the EPIC EHR platform is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review medical records and clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes

  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with federal regulations, payer guidelines, and hospital policies

  • Abstract key clinical data from patient records for billing and reporting purposes

  • Work closely with providers and clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary

  • Identify and correct coding discrepancies to ensure accurate reimbursement

  • Maintain productivity and accuracy standards while managing coding queues

  • Assist with coding audits and quality improvement initiatives

  • Stay current with coding updates, payer regulations, and industry standards

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy regulations

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification

  • Experience coding in a hospital or healthcare environment

  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems

  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and healthcare documentation

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage multiple records while maintaining high accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using EPIC electronic health record system

  • Previous hospital or patient financial services coding experience

  • Experience working in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) or rural hospital environment is highly valued

  • Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards
