A specialty cheese company in the Grand Rapids area is preparing for the upcoming farmers market season and is seeking outgoing and dependable individuals to join their team as Seasonal Farmers Market Sales Associates (Cheesemongers).

This is a fun, customer-facing role where you will spend your day interacting with customers, offering samples of specialty cheeses, and helping people discover new favorites at farmers markets across West Michigan.

This is a highly interactive position that involves speaking with customers, recommending cheeses, and helping shoppers build selections they will enjoy. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and brings steady energy throughout the day. This role is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy food, farmers markets, and working outdoors during the summer season.

Farmers Market Sales Associate (Seasonal) Responsibilities

• Setup and breakdown of farmers market booths, tents, tables, and displays
• Preparation and organization of cheese displays for market presentation
• Loading and unloading cheese, coolers, and market equipment at the shop and market locations
• Cutting and wrapping cheese for customer orders throughout the day
• Offering cheese samples and recommending products to customers
• Assisting customers in selecting cheeses based on preferences and occasions
• Engaging with customers to create a welcoming and enjoyable market experience
• Handling cash and Square point-of-sale transactions accurately
• Maintaining food safety, sanitation, and product quality standards
• Keeping the booth clean, organized, and visually appealing throughout the market day
• Representing the company brand with professionalism and strong customer service

Schedule & Pay

• This is a seasonal position running approximately May through early October (about 18 weeks).

• Employees typically work 1–3 market days per week, with most markets occurring on Saturdays, along with occasional Sunday or weekday markets.

• Market days typically begin early in the morning with preparation at the shop before traveling to the market location and usually last 10–12 hours.

• Pay typically ranges from $20–$24+ per hour depending on market performance, with additional incentives available for attendance and picking up additional market shifts.

• Weekly hours typically range from 10–30 hours, with opportunities for additional hours depending on scheduling needs.

Farmers Market Sales Associate (Seasonal) Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Comfort interacting with customers and engaging in conversation throughout the market day
• Outgoing and personable personality with a positive attitude
• Reliability and strong attendance for scheduled market days
• Ability to remain on feet for extended periods during 10–12 hour shifts
• Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift and move coolers, tables, tents, and market equipment
• Interest in food, farmers markets, and customer interaction
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
• Weekend availability
