General Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the company objectives by applying fundamental engineering principles, concepts, and techniques. This position is responsible for managing and developing essential project documentation, including drawings, part lists, and process instructions, ensuring projects are completed on time. Key responsibilities include creating 3D models of parts and assemblies, developing process instructions for assembly, utilizing 3D printing for prototyping, and designing new parts and equipment. The role also involves conducting primary analyses to explore design options, recommending solutions for structures, systems, and components, and providing cost estimates for quoting new project. Success in this role requires strong teamwork, effective planning, and a results-driven approach to project execution.
Essential Functions
- Conduct engineering research, design, and development of mechanical products to support global transit authorities and train car manufacturers.
- Create and update mechanical drawings using CAD software.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to various work assignments.
- Utilize mathematical problem-solving techniques to address engineering challenges.
- Execute engineering tasks as assigned by leadership.
- Follow established Westcode engineering and quality processes.
- Manage multiple ongoing projects efficiently.
- Travel to customer sites and major transit authorities across the United States, including but not limited to New York City, New Jersey, and Philadelphia, for engineering support.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support business objectives.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Authorities
- Design and develop advanced engineering systems for railcar applications, from concept to implementation.
- Conduct research, design, and development of mechanical products, tools, machines, and production equipment.
- Perform calculations for dimensions, weights, capacities, and other specifications using mathematical principles.
- Create system designs that align with customer requirements and industry standards.
- Verify and validate system designs to ensure they meet all defined performance and safety requirements.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution (preferred).
- Alternatively, a 2-year technical degree in a related field with at least 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- 0–2 years of professional engineering experience.
Skills & Abilities
- Understanding of project management concepts, with applicability to specific assignments.
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanical drawing principles and their real-world application.
- Ability to analyze processes and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and management teams.
- Proficiency in office automation, communication tools, Herman Miller mainframe applications, and engineering-related software.
- Basic problem-solving skills, leveraging engineering expertise to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workflows, responding effectively to project shifts as needed.
- Core understanding of business principles and how engineering decisions impact overall business performance.
