Position OverviewExpress Employment is seeking a hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to support daily warehouse and distribution operations at our Harahan facility. This role assists the Operations Manager in overseeing warehouse personnel, inventory flow, shipping and receiving, and overall operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced distribution environment and can ensure safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Assist in managing daily warehouse and distribution operations, including receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, and outbound shipments.
Supervise and support warehouse staff including forklift operators, loaders, and material handlers.
Ensure accurate inventory management and proper material handling of lumber, doors, millwork, and building materials.
Help coordinate delivery schedules and logistics to ensure timely customer deliveries.
Monitor operational performance, productivity, and workflow efficiency.
Enforce safety procedures, OSHA standards, and company policies within the warehouse.
Assist with training, coaching, and performance management of team members.
Work closely with sales, purchasing, and logistics teams to ensure seamless operations.
Step in for the Operations Manager when needed and help resolve operational challenges.
3–5+ years of warehouse, distribution, or operations leadership experience.
Experience in building materials, lumber yards, or industrial distribution strongly preferred.
Proven ability to lead warehouse teams and maintain productivity.
Strong knowledge of inventory systems, shipping/receiving processes, and logistics coordination.
Forklift and warehouse equipment familiarity.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Experience with ERP or warehouse management systems (WMS).
Background in construction supply or building materials distribution.
Safety training or OSHA certification.
