Location: South Park, PA
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch)
Pay Rate: $24–26/hr DOE

Position Summary

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician to assist with the preparation and testing of coal and coke samples. This is a hands-on role involving sample preparation, crushing, drying, and furnace testing of raw materials.

The technician will help maintain sample integrity throughout the preparation and testing process while supporting routine laboratory operations. This position is ideal for someone comfortable with physical work in a laboratory environment handling coal and rock materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and verify incoming coal and coke samples, reporting issues to the supervisor

• Prepare gross samples for drying and testing

• Dry samples using laboratory moisture ovens

• Crush and pulverize coal and rock samples using lab equipment

• Mix and blend samples using laboratory blenders

• Perform moisture testing

• Conduct sieve analysis / particle size testing

• Assist with carbonization testing (MWO, SHO, CSR)

• Load and handle materials used in high-temperature furnace testing

• Maintain and store reserve samples

• Keep laboratory areas clean, organized, and safe

• Follow laboratory procedures and work instructions

• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Safe, reliable, and dependable

• Ability to learn quickly and follow detailed instructions

• Strong attention to detail

• Able to work independently with minimal supervision

• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods

• Comfortable working with coal, rock, dust, and laboratory equipment

• High School Diploma or GED required

• Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation

• Must pass drug/alcohol screening and background check
