Position Overview:

HGA is seeking a Lead Instrumentation Engineer to support operations in Ruston, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, or The Woodlands, TX. The Lead Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for directing, scheduling, and executing instrumentation engineering and design activities within the Electrical & Instrumentation Department. This role defines project scope, establishes objectives, and prepares man-hour budgets in coordination with the Department Manager. The position provides technical leadership, ensures quality and constructability of deliverables, and supports the growth and development of the department.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Perform and review instrumentation analysis and design activities for complex industrial projects.

· Lead engineers, designers, and drafters in producing construction drawing packages, including:

o Instrumentation specifications and data sheets

o Instrument index and I/O lists

o Loop diagrams

o Control and wiring drawings

o Control panel layouts

o Junction box layouts

o Cable/conduit schedules

· Ensure accuracy, compliance with codes/standards, and alignment with company drafting practices.

· Serve as lead engineer on assigned projects, providing technical direction and oversight.

· Conduct comprehensive checking of instrumentation design packages.

· Mentor and develop junior team members; contribute to departmental resource planning.

· Participate in interviewing and hiring activities based on staffing needs.

 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution.

· Minimum 10 years of experience in instrumentation or electrical engineering.

· Experience serving as a lead engineer preferred.

· Strong preference for consulting engineering experience and industrial project execution.

· Strong preference for experience in oil & gas, hydrocarbon, or refinery environments.

· Thorough understanding of instrumentation engineering practices, design standards, and applicable codes (e.g., NEC, ANSI).

· Experience with the following software preferred:

o Visual Lighting Design Software

o Allen-Bradley CenterONE

o TraceCal Pro

o ETAP

o SKM

o EasyPower
