?? Construction General Foreman – Job Description & Duties

A Construction General Foreman is a senior on-site supervisor responsible for overseeing multiple crews, coordinating daily construction activities, and ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and according to specifications. They serve as the bridge between project management and field workers.


?? Core Responsibilities

1. Site Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise multiple foremen and trade crews (carpentry, concrete, electrical, plumbing, etc.)

  • Assign daily tasks and ensure proper manpower allocation

  • Enforce company policies and jobsite standards

  • Mentor and train junior foremen and workers

  • Maintain discipline and productivity on-site


2. Project Coordination

  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications

  • Coordinate workflow between different trades

  • Schedule daily and weekly work plans

  • Monitor project milestones and deadlines

  • Work closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent


3. Safety Management

  • Enforce OSHA and site safety regulations

  • Conduct daily safety briefings (“toolbox talks”)

  • Identify and correct jobsite hazards

  • Ensure proper use of PPE and equipment

  • Investigate and report incidents


4. Quality Control

  • Inspect work for compliance with plans and codes

  • Ensure high standards of workmanship

  • Oversee material usage and prevent waste

  • Coordinate inspections with engineers and inspectors


5. Resource & Equipment Management

  • Plan equipment and material needs

  • Coordinate deliveries and inventory

  • Monitor equipment usage and maintenance

  • Prevent downtime due to shortages


6. Communication & Reporting

  • Provide daily progress reports

  • Communicate issues to management

  • Attend project meetings

  • Maintain documentation (logs, time sheets, safety reports)


?? Key Skills & Qualifications

  • 7–15+ years construction experience

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings

  • Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA standards)

  • Scheduling and workforce coordination skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities

  • Good communication and conflict resolution skills
