Hours: 1st Shift: 7am-3:30pm. Potential OT.

Job Description:
The Machine Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of various production machines, including but not limited to lamination, pleating, RF sealing, ring panel machines, and the Jewett Automation Helios robotic filter-making machine. Operators must adhere to standardized operating procedures (SOPs), including machine setup, calibration protocols, safety procedures, quality control inspections, and material handling guidelines to ensure operational efficiency and compliance. The Machine Operator ensures workflow efficiency and meets production quotas while upholding strict safety and quality standards.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems, adaptability to multiple machine types, and the ability to troubleshoot operational inefficiencies. Machine Operators play a pivotal role in the manufacturing process, ensuring machinery runs optimally, materials meet specifications, and product integrity is maintained.
Additionally, Machine Operators must complete cross-training on different machines within their first six months of employment. This structured training program includes hands-on practice, mentorship from experienced operators, and periodic performance evaluations to ensure competency and proficiency in multiple machine types as required by production schedules. Operators must be willing to assist in various plant operations beyond machine operation to address evolving production demands and workflow adjustments. A commitment to continuous improvement methodologies is required to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and implement lean manufacturing principles.
Operators are also required to engage with enterprise software systems and digital interfaces for job performance. This includes logging production data, tracking maintenance tasks, following digital work instructions, and managing material consumption through NetSuite, CMMS systems, and digital workflow tracking platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Process Optimization
- Operate lamination, pleating, RF sealing, ring panel machines, and the Helios robotic filter-making machine in adherence to SOPs and operational safety guidelines.
- Perform machine setup, calibration, and adjustments related to temperature, speed, pressure, pleat height, glue application, and material alignment.
- Conduct diagnostic tests and real-time adjustments to maintain optimal product consistency and efficiency.
- Implement preventive maintenance strategies to minimize machine downtime and maximize efficiency.
- Maintain precise digital records of machine performance, cycle times, and productivity metrics using company software.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify process enhancements and system upgrades.
Operation of Robotic & Automated Systems
- Configure, program, and monitor automated and/or robotic equipment.
- Ensure seamless integration of automation processes with conventional machine operations.
- Perform routine diagnostics, troubleshooting, and system recalibrations to maintain precision performance.
- Follow robotic safety protocols and industry best practices to mitigate risks and prevent malfunctions.
- Support software updates and process refinement initiatives in coordination with automation specialists.
Material Handling & Supply Chain Integration
- Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure timely material supply for production machinery.
- Perform scheduled quality inspections of incoming raw materials using a standardized checklist to ensure compliance with material specifications; reject substandard supplies as required.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and segregation of machine-specific materials to avoid cross-contamination.
- Accurately document material consumption, scrap rates, and inventory levels in NetSuite and other ERP systems.
- Establish efficient workstation material layouts to minimize retrieval time and enhance workflow continuity.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Conduct rigorous quality inspections to ensure finished products meet customer specifications and regulatory standards.
- Identify, document, and isolate non-conforming products, coordinating with Quality Control teams for corrective action.
- Apply 6S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) methodologies to sustain workplace organization and safety.
- Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement projects to elevate operational excellence.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific quality management systems by adhering to UL standards and participating in regular internal audits to maintain certification and operational excellence.
Equipment Maintenance & Technical Troubleshooting
- Perform daily machine inspections to detect and resolve performance issues proactively.
- Utilize CMMS software to track machine health, report breakdowns, and schedule maintenance tasks.
- Execute basic mechanical adjustments, lubrication, and component replacements to prevent mechanical failures.
- Assist in the installation, testing, and validation of new production equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive machine logs, contributing to data-driven root cause analysis and predictive maintenance strategies.
Training & Professional Development
- Participate in Daily Standup Meetings (DSUM) to communicate workflow updates and address production challenges.
- Support the onboarding and mentorship of new operators, ensuring proficiency in machine operations and safety compliance.
- Engage in cross-training programs to develop expertise across multiple machine categories, including lamination, pleating, RF sealing, ring panel machines, and automated/robotic equipment, ensuring alignment with business needs and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives aimed at reducing waste and enhancing production efficiency.
- Demonstrate leadership in continuous skill enhancement and technical competency development.
Work Schedule & Shift Expectations
- Maintain flexibility to accommodate production demand fluctuations, including occasional shift coverage and overtime requirements.
- Advance notification of shift adjustments will be provided whenever feasible; however, operators must be prepared for urgent schedule modifications.
- Be willing to work extended shifts, typically ranging from 2 to 4 additional hours per shift when required to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, sustain prolonged standing for up to 8 hours, and perform repetitive mechanical tasks.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, walking, and reaching in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to high-decibel noise levels, requiring compliance with mandatory hearing protection requirements.
- Regular interaction with industrial lubricants, adhesives, solvents, and airborne particulates.
- Work in environments with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels, requiring appropriate personal protective measures.
- Compliance with all mandated PPE usage, including eye protection, gloves, and respiratory safeguards when required.
