Job Summary: Express Employment Professionals in Bellingham is hiring a Head Cook for a seasonal position aboard a barge in Bristol Bay, Alaska! This is a unique opportunity to work in a one-of-a-kind environment with travel, free lodging, and stunning views of the sea. Pre-season duties include preparing and stocking the galley with all equipment and supplies. You will be responsible for running all galley operations, planning menus, ordering food, and preparing three to four meals daily for a crew of up to 100. You’ll supervise and train a second cook and two galley assistants, ensuring strict food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards are always met.

 

The ideal candidate is someone with at least five years of cooking experience, including two years in a high-volume operation, plus menu planning and large-scale kitchen management experience. You must be comfortable working long hours in a wet, cold marine environment and able to lift up to 50 pounds independently (100 pounds with assistance). An Alaska Food Worker Card and Food Manager Certification are required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Job Duties & Requirements include:
-Pre-season duties will include stocking the galley with cooking equipment, cooking utensils, and other necessary galley equipment.
-Coordinate, train and supervise a staff consisting of a second cook and 2 galley assistants.
-Plan, order and prepare 3-4 meals per day for a maximum crew of 100 in coordination with the galley staff.
-Plan menus for all meals while adhering to budgeted meal costs.
-Be the main point of contact for all food vendors prior to and during the season.
-Ensure that all safe food handling practices are strictly followed, and the galley is operated in a manner that is always audit ready.
-Conduct daily walk throughs of galley and food storage areas to ensure cleanliness and adequate stock.
-Maintain a high level of professionalism and a customer service mindset toward the crew on the barge.
-Address issues as they arise, particularly in the areas of cleanliness and employee performance.
-Ensure the galley is operated under applicable standards for food safety, sanitation, and infection prevention.
-Operate and train galley staff in safety protocols with a zero-accident tolerance mindset.
-All other duties as assigned
