Packaging Team Lead
Reports to: Production Supervisor
Location: Vineland, NJ
Job Summary
The Packaging Team Lead supports the Production Supervisor by ensuring all packaging operations meet established standards for safety, quality, efficiency, and waste reduction. This role oversees daily activities of packaging employees, coordinates line operations, and maintains compliance with food safety and GMP requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure all Critical Control Points (CCPs) are monitored and controlled according to required procedures.
• Coordinate line start‑ups, shutdowns, and product changeovers.
• Optimize equipment settings and intervene as needed to prevent downtime and minimize product loss.
• Report any deviations from standard procedures to the Production Supervisor immediately.
• Maintain continuous packaging operations with a focus on efficiency, waste reduction, product quality, and safety.
• Ensure proper lockout procedures are followed during equipment stoppages.
• Maintain adequate supply of raw materials, components, and packaging materials.
• Complete all required daily production paperwork accurately.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels at line start‑up and throughout production; notify supervisor of shortages or overstaffing.
• Confirm all employees are properly trained for their assigned duties.
• Communicate operational or mechanical issues to the supervisor and maintenance team.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas.
• Collaborate with maintenance and quality teams to meet shift goals and performance targets.
• Coordinate and manage all packaging employee breaks and activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Technical Skills
• Strong understanding of GMPs.
• Solid knowledge of packaging processes and equipment.
Knowledge & Other Requirements
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Highly organized and detail‑oriented.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Minitab and SAP.
• Working knowledge of food safety standards.
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent experience.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Work Experience
• Minimum 2 years in the food industry.
• Minimum 2 years in an operations or production environment.
Working Conditions
• Hours and duties may vary based on production needs.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand or move for up to 100% of the shift.
• Frequent bending, stooping, lifting, climbing stairs, carrying, walking, reaching, and repetitive motion.
