ACCOUNT CLERK I/II

Position Overview:
We are seeking an Account Clerk I or II to join our team. This role provides clerical and technical accounting support while delivering excellent customer service. You will assist residents and businesses with utility account inquiries, answer phone calls, and address a wide range of questions, as our department serves as the central hub for operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process accounts receivable, accounts payable, utility accounts, and business licenses.

• Provide professional customer service in person and over the phone.

• Maintain accurate accounting records, perform reconciliations, and assist with financial transactions.

• Utilize automated financial systems and office software to process, store, and retrieve information.

• Explain policies, procedures, and billing information to customers clearly and courteously.

• Collaborate with other accounting personnel and support department operations.

Qualifications:

• Account Clerk I: High school diploma or equivalent; 1 year of relevant financial or clerical experience.

• Account Clerk II: High school diploma or equivalent; 2 years of relevant experience or comparable experience as an Account Clerk I.

• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

• Ability to operate office equipment and accounting software.

• Valid Class C California driver’s license (or ability to obtain).

• Bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Schedule & Work Environment:

• 9/80 schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; work every other Friday (8-hour shift with ½-hour lunch).

• Professional attire required; jeans permitted on Fridays.

• Standard office environment with some prolonged sitting, standing, and data entry.

Pay Range:

• Account Clerk I – $23.83/hour

• Account Clerk II – $26.32/hour

Additional Information:

• Hiring manager is available to meet and interview candidates.

• Entry-level Account Clerk I is for those developing skills under supervision.

• Account Clerk II is the full journey-level position with more complex responsibilities.
