Position Summary
A Brake Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining brake press machines used to bend, shape, and form sheet metal and other materials according to specifications. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read technical drawings and blueprints.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate brake press machines to bend, form, or straighten metal and other materials.
- Interpret blueprints, work orders, and engineering drawings to determine material specifications and bending sequence.
- Select appropriate tooling, dies, and machine settings based on material thickness and project requirements.
- Inspect finished products using measuring tools (calipers, protractors, gauges, etc.) to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Adjust machine controls to correct errors or meet tolerance requirements.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to keep equipment in optimal working condition.
- Maintain safe work practices by following company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
- Track production output and document completed work using company systems.
- Collaborate with team members including supervisors, engineers, and other machine operators to meet production goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating brake press machines (e.g., Amada, Cincinnati, Accurpress, Trumpf).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with measuring tools and precision instruments.
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods.
- Basic math skills and understanding of material properties.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Knowledge of workplace safety guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC brake press machines and programming (e.g., LVD, Bystronic).
- Prior work in sheet metal fabrication or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S practices.
- Forklift certification (optional depending on employer).
Hours are M-F 6 am to 230 pm and pay is BOE $17-$20/hr.
