We have partnered with a family‑run engineering company seeking to direct hire a skilled PLC Technician to join their growing team. This is an exceptional opportunity with long‑term potential—including the possibility of partial company ownership for the right individual.


Position Summary

The PLC Technician (Controls Engineer) will work hands‑on with electrical control systems, hardware integration, and custom automation solutions. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in PLC programming tools such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and Automation Direct, and is comfortable working with multiple I/O sources to create efficient automated systems.

This role involves collaborating with engineers and project teams to translate automation requirements into robust production solutions using proven software engineering principles. Candidates should be able to adapt hardware and software systems using their expertise and sound judgment.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Always maintain a safe working environment and comply with company, customer, and OSHA safety standards
  • Participate in and promote ongoing safety initiatives
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including extended stays during major project phases
  • Complete work based on written or verbal instructions
  • Design automated control systems and electrical panels
  • Lead design reviews internally and with customers
  • Create PLC ladder logic that supports required controls, including safety features
  • Develop project bills of materials
  • Conduct investigations and testing to validate new technology
  • Perform upgrades or repairs on existing controls/equipment
  • Develop and manage project timelines
  • Troubleshoot PLC ladder logic, I/O, and other control-related issues
  • Conduct equipment start‑up and verification both in‑house and onsite at customer locations
  • Manage and maintain controls spare parts inventory
  • Document designs, inspections, repairs, and relevant data
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Skills & Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Minimum 3 years of PLC programming experience (process logic/analog)
  • Experience with Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix & CompactLogix, Siemens, Automation Direct, and HMIs preferred
  • Analog programming experience (flow, temperature, pressure, etc.) is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control components: photoelectric and proximity sensors, solenoid valves, frequency/servo drives, PLC I/O
  • Advanced ability to read schematic drawings, machine prints, and process logic

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Programming, or related field preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience working with high‑speed machinery or automated equipment
  • Expert proficiency in ladder logic architecture (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct)
  • Proven experience with PLC programming, motion control commissioning, and remote/field support
  • AutoCAD proficiency required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Frequently lift/move up to 10 lbs, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs
