Garden Center Manager

Our client, a well-established garden center and wholesale distributor, is seeking a Garden Center Manager to lead their retail operations in Hopkinton, MA. They are known for their high-quality plants, exceptional customer service, and commitment to horticultural expertise.

The Garden Center Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of retail operations, including sales performance, staff management, merchandising, inventory, and customer experience. This role blends hands-on daily management with strategic leadership, ensuring a professional, welcoming, and productive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily retail operations to ensure a customer-focused and professional environment

• Coach, develop, and manage staff to achieve performance, service, and safety goals

• Provide horticultural guidance and support sales through direct customer engagement

• Oversee merchandising, inventory planning, and seasonal product presentation

• Monitor plant health, store appearance, and operational standards

• Manage staffing schedules, workflow, and operational compliance

• Maintain store facilities, equipment, and safety protocols

• Participate in budgeting, sales forecasting, and performance tracking

• Identify opportunities to improve sales, efficiency, and customer satisfaction

• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements:

• 3–5+ years of retail, garden center, or related management experience

• Strong horticultural knowledge, including trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals

• Experience managing sales performance, merchandising, inventory, and staffing

• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills

• Proficiency with POS systems and general business software

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Availability for weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods
