Wood Veneer Sales Specialist

A well-established specialty wood products manufacturer in the Troy area is seeking a Technical Sales & Wood Veneer Specialist to support both production operations and customer-facing sales.
This is not a desk-only sales role. This position is ideal for a former carpenter or hands-on woodworking professional who understands real-world installation challenges and can translate that knowledge into practical solutions for customers and internal production teams.
What You’ll Do
You will serve as the technical bridge between the production floor and customers.
- Diagnose veneer production or bonding issues inside the facility
- Evaluate customer installation challenges and determine root cause
- Provide technical guidance that supports solution-based selling
- Work directly with sales to close opportunities that require technical expertise
- Recommend corrective actions tied to materials, equipment setup, pressing, layup, or installation methods
- Occasionally travel regionally to visit customers or vendors when needed
Commissions are paid on sales generated through your technical involvement and problem-solving support.
What We’re Looking For
- Former carpenter or strong hands-on woodworking background required
- Experience in veneer, millwork, cabinetry, furniture manufacturing, or similar environment preferred
- Mechanically sharp and comfortable on a production floor
- Able to diagnose process breakdowns and installation failures
- Strong communication skills with both production staff and customers
- Comfortable making decisions in fast-moving situations
This role requires standing, walking the floor, and moderate physical activity. It is best suited for someone who prefers being involved in operations rather than sitting behind a desk.
